The Challenge

Bond Loss to Baghouse or Bond Dosing Nozzle Clogging
In many sand plants equipped with a Simpson Speedmullor, bond is traditionally added in the weigh hopper, which often leads to bond loss through dust collection systems. The Speedmullor Bond Nozzle systems are designed for pneumatic bond dosing along the side of the muller, allowing fluidized sand to shield the bond from dust collection. However, even with proper bond dosing measures in place, many teams struggle with maintaining equipment due to a lack of maintenance personnel, leading to frequent bond nozzle clogs.

Simpson Solution

The original Simpson Speedmullor® Bond Nozzles were designed with a horizontal orientation and a single compressed air inlet to clean the bond path. This design has been upgraded. Our experience revealed that a single air inlet was inadequate for keeping the nozzle clear, often leading to water becoming trapped and causing clogs. Additionally, the threaded connection increased maintenance time.

To enhance performance and simplify maintenance, Simpson Engineering has redesigned the system. The new design features a downward-sloping bond nozzle with an additional compressed air inlet, a booster section dedicated to cleaning the nozzle, and a “quick disconnect” cam and groove coupling with two clamps for easier attachment and removal.
